Our Story

HI Chromatics was inspired by one artist’s love for working in watercolor combined with her frustration over the lack of available eco-friendly and cruelty-free options.

We’re based in the tropical oasis of O’ahu, Hawai’i, but we can deliver HI Chromatics products to any location that couriers can reach. Our materials are sourced both locally and from suppliers around the globe. Our all-natural pigments come from local partners as well as international purveyors from as far afield as France, Italy, Cyprus, South Africa, and India.

Join the community of artists striving to live more harmoniously with our Mother Earth - or as we say in Hawaiian – Malama Ka ‘Aina.

Many species of honey bees have become critically endangered including seven species of Hawaiian yellow-faced bee. All species of bees play a crucial role in our food system and environment.

Bees are losing their habitat, facing invasive species and climate change. To make matter worse beekeepers take the honey and replace it with a sugar substitute which is detrimental for bees health, and it’s not their natural source of nutrition.

Mindful consumption motivate us to leave honey off the paint-making process, replace it with organic vegetable glycerin and organic Arabic gum for the binder and to use only toxin free and eco-friendly pigments.

Let our artist-grade watercolor inspire you to be the kindest and environmentally conscious painter you can be.
